AGM Batteries

Jupiter Batteries has decided to offer Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries exclusively.  Due to the depth of discharge and the number of discharge cycles that are typical of UPS, emergency lighting, solar, alarm and similar applications, only AGM batteries, with their heavy, solid, nonporous plates will withstand the test of time.

In addition to the use of solid plates, Jupiter Batteries utilizes the very best of AGM technology and manufacturing standards certified by ISO 9001.  More specifically, we use:

  • Solid copper terminals to insure high current capacity
  • Tank formed plates, composed of high-purity lead/calcium alloy, to insure high initial capacity and consistent cell voltage balance
  • Low-salt sulfuric acid that results in low self-discharge and more reliable charge recovery
  • Uniform mats of very fine boron-silicate glass fiber that provide a highly-efficient transfer medium and contribute to responsiveness and reliability (they are only 95% saturated with acid and thereby eliminate the problems associated with free liquids)
  • Demanding assembly tolerances that produce a battery that is stable and repeatable

Our AGM batteries are also Valve Regulated Lead Acid (VRLA) batteries.  As such, they are recombinant, i.e., they operate under a slight pressure and force the oxygen and hydrogen that is produced to recombine into water.  This process is so efficient that very little water escapes over time; consequently, there is no need for any to be added.  Other important reasons that we recommend only AGM batteries are provided below:

  • No spillage if an AGM battery is dropped.
  • AGM batteries are classified as non-hazardous.
  • An AGM battery can be mounted in any position.
  • An AGM battery will not freeze.
  • Our AGM batteries release very little hydrogen gas and only under a very heavy discharge.
  • Charge voltages are the same as other standard batteries.
  • The internal resistance of an AGM battery is low.  Therefore, less heating occurs during discharge.
  • AGM batteries accommodate wide charge and discharge current ranges.
  • AGM batteries have very low self-discharge rates, normally <2% per month.
  • Our AGM batteries are cost effective.
